The exhibition Roma Akademia brings together the work produced by forty-five artists during their residency at the Spanish Royal Academy in Rome (RAER) through the annual grant of the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID). Roma Akademia presents work and projects by 2018-2019 and the 2019-2020 graduates at a single big exhibition, held for the first time in the Basque Country.
This exhibition project, designed by the architect and curator Jesús Donaire, displays the multidisciplinary approach of this programme of artistic grants: from painting to photography, through industrial design, film and video creation, architecture, theatre, literature, fashion and restoration. The common denominator of the work is the interaction of the creators with various cultural agents and the multiple realities of the city of Rome.
This project converts Azkuna Zentroa - Alhóndiga Bilbao into a large exhibition of contemporary creation, which enables visitors to explore new artistic languages throughout the Bilbao Society and Contemporary Culture Centre.
